All praise belongs to Allāh, Lord of the Worlds, and blessings and peace upon His Final Prophet Muḥammad ﷺ, and upon all his family and companions.

This blessed biography of Bahr al-ʿUlūm — may Allāh be pleased with him — is the work of his devoted disciple and nephew, Maulvī Abū'l-Fayḍ Muḥammad Anwāruddīn Ṣiddīqī, who laboured upon it with great love and care. It is presented here in its second edition, having been prepared with attention and reverence for this illustrious scholar of the Deccan.

When the author passed away — may Allāh shower His mercy upon him — this manuscript lay waiting for publication. It fell to us at Ḥasrat Academy to bring it to light, trusting that such a work recording the life of a great saint and scholar ought not to remain hidden from those who seek knowledge and spiritual benefit.

A committee of four scholars reviewed the manuscript with care, examining its text for accuracy and ensuring the integrity of the narrative as Maulvī Anwāruddīn had left it. Any additions or clarifications by the Academy editors are noted in parentheses within the text.

In the course of preparing this edition, the family genealogical trees (shajara-hā-ye nasab) have been updated and expanded, so that future generations may have a complete and accurate record of the lineage of this blessed family.

We pray that Allāh accept this humble effort, benefit the readers through it, and fill their hearts with love for the righteous. May the blessings of Bahr al-ʿUlūm — and of all the saints and scholars whose names appear in these pages — be a means of guidance for us all.
