A Brief Account of Bahr-ul-Uloom (Hazrat Hasrat)

Hazrat Bahr-ul-Uloom Muhammad Abdul Qadeer Siddiqui, known by his pen-name 'Hasrat,' was born on the 13th of Rajab, 1288 AH (corresponding to approximately 1871 CE) in Hyderabad Deccan, in the Deccan plateau of south India. He was of noble lineage, connected through his family to the tradition of Islamic scholarship that had flourished in Hyderabad for generations.

Hazrat Hasrat received his religious education in Hyderabad, studying under the foremost scholars of his era. His intellectual gifts were evident from a young age, and he mastered the traditional Islamic sciences — Quran, Hadith, Fiqh, Usul, Arabic language, and Tafsir — with exceptional depth. He earned the honorific title 'Bahr-ul-Uloom' (Ocean of Knowledge) in recognition of his encyclopaedic scholarship.

Among his most monumental achievements is the complete Quranic commentary 'Tafseer Siddiqui' — a comprehensive exegesis of the entire Quran in Urdu, which remains a landmark work in the South Asian Islamic scholarly tradition. His multi-volume series 'Ad-Deen' (of which this volume is Part Three) represents his systematic effort to present the entirety of Islamic belief and practice in an accessible, hadith-grounded format for the educated Muslim reader.

Hazrat Hasrat passed away on the 14th of Shawwal, 1381 AH (corresponding to 23 March 1962 CE) in Hyderabad. He left behind a rich scholarly legacy: numerous works on Quran, Hadith, Aqeedah, Fiqh, and Islamic spirituality, which continue to be studied, published, and benefited from by Muslims in the Subcontinent and beyond.

May Allah shower His mercy upon him, grant him the highest stations in Paradise, and continue to cause benefit to flow through his knowledge. Ameen.
