Sittings of August 1959 — Part III
مجالسِ اگست ۱۹۵۹ — حصہ سوم
14 August 1959
Topic 13: Separation and Departure
The discussion touched upon the meaning of separation — both in legal terms (as in divorce proceedings) and in spiritual terms (the separation of the soul from worldly attachments). In the legal sense, Hazrat discussed the procedures by which a husband or wife may separate.
Topic 14: The Embodied Qur'an
The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, was described by Sayyidah Ayesha, may Allah be pleased with her, as 'a walking Qur'an' — that is, the Qur'an embodied in a human form. His character, his actions, his mercy and his justice were all a living reflection of the Qur'anic message. This is the meaning of 'Qur'an Mujassam' — the Qur'an incarnated in character, not in physical form.
Topic 15: Presenting Islam to Non-Muslims
Hazrat spoke about the method and approach for presenting Islam to those outside the faith. The key is wisdom, gentleness and exemplary character. One should not begin with theological debates but with the universality of Islamic values — justice, compassion, and the oneness of God. The Qur'an itself says:
ادْعُ إِلَىٰ سَبِيلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالْمَوْعِظَةِ الْحَسَنَةِ
(Surah al-Nahl 16:125) — 'Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction.'
Topic 16: Divine Realities and Cosmic Realities
Hazrat drew a distinction between the 'Haqaiq al-Ilahiyya' (Divine Realities — the Attributes and Names of Allah as they subsist in the Divine Essence) and the 'Haqaiq al-Kawniyya' (Cosmic Realities — the created world as it manifests the Divine Names in externalized form). The created world is a mirror for the Divine Attributes; it does not possess independent existence but reflects the Light of the Real.
Topic 17: Absolute Non-Existence
The concept of 'Ma'dum Mutlaq' (Absolute Non-Existence) refers to that which has no existence whatsoever — not even in knowledge or in the Divine Will. The created world, by contrast, existed in the Divine Knowledge before its external manifestation. True non-existence is that which has never been known at any level.
