The Vision of God

دیدارِ الٰہی

The Vision of God (Dīdār Ilāhī): Will the Vision of Allah Most High occur at Resurrection? Yes — it is a purification of the soul's essence (tajriyat-e-dhāt). Against the claim of the verse:

لَّا تُدۡرِكُهُ الۡأَبۡصَارُ وَهُوَ يُدۡرِكُ الۡأَبۡصَارَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الۡخَبِيرُ

"Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted." (Sūrat al-Anʿām, 6:103) — From this verse it becomes clear that He is the perceiver of everything; and He perceives all vision, and He is the All-Subtle, the All-Aware. This verse speaks of the negation of comprehension of the Essence, not of vision absolutely.

A second verse:

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌ ۝ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ

"[Some] faces that Day will be radiant, looking at their Lord." (Sūrat al-Qiyāma, 75:22–23) — On the Day of Resurrection some people's faces will be fresh and radiant — looking at their Lord. Yes — one place says this and the verse is: nay, but on their hearts is the rust of that which they used to earn — nay, indeed they will be veiled from their Lord that Day (al-Mutaffifīn / the Defrauders) — this is not that they will never see; rather this is the consequence of their dark hearts and what they committed. Never — rather the people of this worldly life will, on the Day of Judgment, be veiled from their Lord in the manner of a veil — meaning they will not be able to see Allah at all — meaning they could not see anything.

In reality this is that Allah's Self-disclosures are of two kinds: (1) The Tajallī Dhātī (Self-disclosure of the Essence) — which no one can see; this relates to the level of Ahadiyya in which there is no twoness — 'in' and 'you' have no entry here — this is the level of wahdat which has no partner. (2) The second tajallī is the tajallī of the Names and Attributes (Asmā' wa Sifāt) of the Divine — this relates to the level of Wahidiyya. Some naive people who are unaware of the World of Archetypes deny the vision of Allah from those who are ignorant — those who are certain of the vision of Allah — they are certainly blind — man kāna fī hādhihi a'mā — so that here they are blind and there they are also blind.

This is worth remembering — because just as the knowledge and faith increases in this world, so much will the vision at Resurrection be — look at the situation: the glory of knowledge — in short — present in my knowledge.

In short, by the grace of Allah Most High, on the Day of Resurrection we will certainly be honoured with the Vision of God (Dīdār Ilāhī). Al-hamdu lillāh.
