Chapter 32

Session: 5 August 1959 — Wednesday

۵ اگست ۱۹۵۹ء — روز چہار شنبہ

Abu al-'Abbas Ahmad Badawi (ابوالعباس احمد بدوی)

Abu al-'Abbas Ahmad Badawi — Hazrat's 'Abbasi (paternal line) companions — being present at his gathering — 'O Ahmad Badawi! O Badawi! Something comes to me, something comes to me, does it come to you too? — he has a great deal in my area' — but he says: 'Badawi' — 'How long have I been — ?' — then he says: 'I see inside — look inside, I remain inside — I see what is happening — their form could not be seen by anyone — a niqab was on it — and someone insisted and he saw it on insistence and died.' This account illustrates the danger of seeking to penetrate divine mysteries beyond one's appointed station.

Qadiri, Chishti, or Naqshbandi? (قادری، چشتی یا نقشبندی؟)

A companion asked: 'Are you Chishti also, Qadiri also, all are — ?' He said: 'Look at what I eat — Ghaws Abdul Qadir — I am living on his food, I will remain on 'Ajmer's — Bahauddin Naqshbandi gives fruits' — a Sahib of a Shirwani shirt is worn (meaning silk/courtly dress) — Badawi, Rifa'i, Qadiri — one sahib wears a Shirwani — (meaning the fuyuz (blessings) of various silsilas (spiritual chains) are received). Hazrat received spiritual benefit from multiple Sufi orders, all of which trace their chains ultimately to the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Ilyas Barni Sahib's Father's Opinion (الیاس برنی صاحب کے والد کی رائے)

The beloved of God wrote to Ilyas Barni Sahib's father: 'what a great man he is! — he keeps his own opinion regarding the manners of the great Shaykhs and shows respect for everyone — may Allah keep His protection with him — he is going with as many great men as there are — Allah keep His protection' — (Maulvi Ibrahim Sahib, the father of Ilyas Barni Sahib — they were Hazrat Qibla's companions going to Hajj — at that time they gave this advice — they always benefited from Hazrat Qibla — they also gave their daughter's response in Pakistan.)

Ya Qahhar! (یا قہار!)

In a time of giving zakat — 'Ya Qahhar' came to be said — a shaitan arrived — I caught him — he became very large — I called here until he became stuck — 'then Khwaja Miyan (from the mausoleum of Hazrat's murshid, Khwaja Siddiq Muhammad Mahbub Allah) was called' — he said 'Ya Qahhar' — the tajallī is even upon him — using this as a means, it is powerful — 'recite it and it will become large' — 'so what to do?' — 'Anta al-Mawjud wa ma siwaka al-mafqud — you are the Existent and everything other than you is non-existent' — and then that touched him and disappeared.

Musa's Mountain Split in Two (جعلہ دکاؤ خر موسیٰ صعقا)

'Make the mountain fall down' — (the mountain broke into pieces and Musa fell down unconscious — this is its meaning — that is a Prophet — Musa's mountain was very large — it became powder — but that mountain remains too — Jabal Tur is also standing — their 'amaniyyat (trust in Allah) was very large — and their 'amaniyyat was great — they did not want to leave those large things — (Fanāʾ was great). This Qur'anic scene — of Musa falling unconscious at the divine manifestation — is cited as an illustration of the overwhelmingness of divine disclosure.

Children of the Murshid (مرشد کے بچے)

One thing, Shanna! Remember — do not fear the murshid — do not fear the children of the murshid. The disciple's relationship is with the murshid as a spiritual guide, not with the murshid's biological family as a separate authority. Reverence for the murshid is not the same as servility to his household.
