Ithm al-Kazb ala al-Nabi ﷺ
The Sin of Lying against the Prophet ﷺ
ordered a man to write it down. Then Hazrat Zaid (RA) said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered us not to write anything from his ahadith. So the hadith that was written was erased, it was obliterated.
We just explained that the command not to write hadith is in relation to the noble Quran. There is no prohibition of writing hadith itself because the Prophet ﷺ himself commanded "اِسْتَعِنْ بِيَمِيْنِکَ". Being unaware of hadith, unaware of the Quran, unaware of the purpose of giving application among ahadith, of proper method? One looks at one hadith and is completely ignorant of another hadith. And starts issuing arbitrary commands. This is just like "لَا تَقْرَبُوا الصَّلٰوةَ" (do not go near prayer). O person! You do not see "وَاَنْتُمْ سُکَارٰی" (while you are intoxicated). You look at one hadith and do not look at another hadith. Learn knowledge, read ahadith! Create absorption in it. God willing, you will become a true Muslim. How long will you remain a Muslim merely for the census? He neither understands Arabic, nor is aware of the meaning and context of the ahadith, yet claims to be a scholar.
Books of law are in Urdu. Just look at someone going to proceed with their own case. They go running to lawyers with their case. They do not hesitate to make a non-Muslim lawyer their attorney. When it comes to acting on the Quran and Hadith to answer in the court of God Most High, why do they not run their own case by looking at Urdu law? Every art has an expert in it who has skill. There is a need to rely on other experts. We rely on the noble Sahaba and the great scholars, and we believe in what they have explained to us. We will find out tomorrow whether we are victorious or you, we just need to close our eyes.
لَا اِلٰهَ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ مُحَمَّدٌ رَّسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ - فَسْئَلُوْا اَهْلَ الذِّکْرِ اِنْ کُنْتُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُوْنَ -
قَالَ اللّٰهُ تَبَارَکَ وَ تَعَالٰی : وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنِ افْتَرٰی -
(Surah Ṭāhā 20:61)
Translation: God, the Blessed and Exalted, says: "And indeed, the one who forged a lie has failed."
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَّضِیَ اللّٰهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُوْلُ اللّٰهِ صَلَّی اللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا تَکْذِبُوْا عَلَیَّ فَاِنَّهٗ مَنْ کَذَبَ عَلَیَّ يَلِجِ النَّارَ -
(Excerpted by the two Sheikhs and Tirmidhi)
Vocabulary: وَلَجَ: He entered. وَلَجَ، يَلِجُ وُلُوْجًا: To enter.
Translation: Hazrat Ali (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not forge a lie against me, because whoever forges a lie against me will enter the Fire." (Bukhari, Muslim, and Tirmidhi have narrated this).
Be it clear that Mutawatir is that hadith in the chain of which, from the beginning to the end, there are so many people that it is impossible for a sound intellect to agree on them all telling a lie. A Mutawatir hadith is of two types: (1) Mutawatir Bil Lafz (2) Mutawatir Bil Ma'na.
(Excerpted by Bukhari and Abu Dawud - Taysir p.268)
Translation: Hazrat Abdullah bin Zubair (RA) narrates that he said to his father (Hazrat Zubair RA): "What is the reason that I do not hear you narrating hadith from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ just as so-and-so and so-and-so narrate hadith?" Hazrat Zubair (RA) said, "Undoubtedly, since I embraced Islam, I never separated from his blessed presence. But I heard from his presence that he said, 'Whoever intentionally tells a lie against me, let him prepare his place in the Fire.'" (Narrated by Bukhari and Abu Dawud and is also in Taysir).
This hadith "مَنْ کَذَبَ عَلَیَّ" ... is Mutawatir Bil Lafz, meaning its words without alteration have been narrated by so many people that no one can agree on it being a lie, and all of them narrate this hadith in these very words. Mutawatir Bil Ma'na is a hadith where the meaning is the same but synonymous words are used, for example, اِنَّمَا الْاَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ has been said by some as اَلْاَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ.
(Narrated by Bukhari - Mishkat)
Vocabulary: بَلِّغُوْا: Imperative plural form. Convey. حَدِّثُوْا: Narrate.
Translation: Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Convey verses and ahadith from me even if it is a single verse. And there is no harm in narrating traditions of the Bani Israel, (there is no harm in believing how much of it is false and how much of it is true) and whoever intentionally tells a lie against me, let him prepare his home in the Fire." (Narrated by Hazrat Bukhari and is also in Mishkat).
(Narrated by Muslim)
