Kitabah al-Hadith
Writing the Hadith
It is possible that in any Zaeef (in terms of transmission) hadith, there might be an important and necessary matter, so it would be necessary to act upon it as well. Probability is of two types: an unwarranted one, or one for which there is a reason. An unwarranted probability does not deserve attention. To act upon probability with an underlying reason and to perform Ijtihad is the work of Imams.
O people! Nowadays, a Fitna has arisen where they do not believe in Ahadith and interpret the noble Quran according to their own whims. In reality, these people do not have full faith in the Prophet ﷺ himself. They believe in what is written in "such and such history (book)", or what "such and such professor" said, or the saying of "such and such European"! But what the Prophet ﷺ said!! They do not believe in that. These people have made religion a plaything. They consider their own flawed opinion more important than the Quran and Hadith. Say what you want and do what you want. Tomorrow it will be known whether you were on the truth or we?
(Narrated in Sharh as-Sunnah - Mishkat)
Translation: Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (RA) narrates that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "None of you becomes a believer until his desires become subservient to what I have brought." (Narrated in Sharh as-Sunnah and is also in Mishkat).
(Surah Al-Baqarah - 63)
Translation: Allah Most High says: "Hold firmly to what We have given you (commands) with full strength and resolute intention."
(Excerpted by Abu Dawud - Taysir p.92)
Vocabulary: اَوْمَاَ: He pointed, he indicated. So they forbade me, stopped me. In pleasure, in a state of happiness. اِصْبَعِ: Finger.
Translation: Hazrat Ibn Amr bin al-As (RA) narrates that he said, "I used to write down everything I heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ. But the Quraysh stopped me and said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ is a human being; he (sometimes) speaks in a state of happiness and (sometimes) in a state of anger, and you write down everything!' (Hearing this) I stopped writing. Until I mentioned this to the Messenger of God ﷺ. He pointed with his finger to his mouth and said, 'Write, by the Being in whose hand is my soul, nothing but the truth comes out from this (mouth).'"
(Excerpted by Tirmidhi - Taysir p.94)
Vocabulary: شَکَا: He complained. اِسْتَعِنْ: Seek help. فَيُعْجِبُنِیْ: So it pleases me. بِيَمِيْنِکَ: With your hand. اَوْمَاَ: He pointed. To point, to tell, to give an opinion.
Translation: Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) narrates that a man who was from among the Ansar complained to the accepted Messenger ﷺ and submitted, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! Undoubtedly, I hear a hadith from you, and it pleases me, but I do not remember it." The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "Seek help from your hand," and he pointed with his hand towards writing (the line). (Tirmidhi recorded this hadith and it is on page 94 of Taysir).
(Excerpted by Bukhari and Tirmidhi - Taysir p.94)
Translation: It is also narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (RA) that he said, "Among the Sahaba of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, no one memorized more ahadith than me, except Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (RA), for he used to write and I did not write." (Narrated by Bukhari and Tirmidhi and it is on page 94 of Taysir).
(Excerpted by Bukhari - Taysir p.95)
And it should be made apparent. And hold gatherings, meetings for it.
Translation: It is narrated from Hazrat Umar bin Abdulaziz that he wrote to Abu Bakr bin Hazm: "Look! Whatever is a hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, write it down, because I fear the erasure of knowledge and the passing away of scholars. And you should never accept anything except the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Knowledge should be made apparent, and gatherings should be held for it so that the one who does not know may come to know, because knowledge does not disappear until it becomes a secret and hidden."
O people! A misunderstanding has been spread by the irreligious that hadith books were written two and a half hundred (250) years after the passing of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Hazrat Umar bin Abdulaziz had ordered that ahadith be collected for them, and madrasas be built. O people! Reflect a little. Hazrat Imam Malik (RH) is the student of Hazrat Nafi', who is the student of Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (RA), who wrote the "Muwatta". He was born in 93 AH and died in 179 AH, and he narrates abundantly from the Tabi'in. And Imam A'zam was born in 80 AH and passed away in 150 AH. He also narrates from the Tabi'in and the "Musnad Abu Hanifa" is attributed to him. Hazrat Imam Muhammad bin Hasan was born in 132 AH and died in 182 AH. He has hundreds of books. He is a student of Hazrat Imam Malik (RH) and he also has a "Muwatta". Hazrat Imam Shafi'i (RH) was born in 150 AH and died in 204 AH. "Kitab al-Umm" is attributed to him. This narrative of two and a half hundred years is entirely wrong. It is against the facts. Such claims are fabricated to discredit ahadith. Hazrat Abu Bakr bin Hazm (RH), whom Hazrat Umar bin Abdulaziz had commanded to compile ahadith, was a Tabi'i. Here, when is the chain long? The fact is that if a chain of narration is long, some doubt and suspicion arise. Where the chain is not long at all, what entry point do doubt and suspicion have?
O people! Today "Ahl-e-Quran" have emerged who do not believe in the prophetic ahadith. I ask them, when you do not believe in ahadith, how will you perform prayers? In the Quran, it only says "صَلُّوْا" (pray). There is "اسْجُدُوْا" (prostrate). And "فَارْکَعُوْا" (bow). Is prostration first or Ruku and Qiyam first? All these things are known from the ahadith of the Messenger ﷺ. Also, remember that Mutawatir is of two types. Mutawatir Bil Lafz, in which there is no change or addition in words, like "اِنَّمَا الْاَعْمَالُ بِالنِّيَّاتِ" etc. And a narrative can be Mutawatir Bil Ma'na too, in which there is some variation in words but the meaning remains the same, like the method of prayer, the method of Hajj, and other ahadith. Remember! What is the meaning of hadith? It is the saying and action of the accepted Messenger ﷺ. So whoever says "I do not believe in hadith," he is in reality
