Bab fi al-Kalam an-Nafsi wal-Lafdhi
Kalam-e-Nafsi and Kalam-e-Lafzi
Translation:- And this too is the statement of Allah Ta'ala that "And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and this ocean were ink, with seven more oceans replenishing it, the words of God would not be exhausted." (Meaning all of this would not be able to encompass it in writing, they would not be able to fully write it).* وَقَالَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى : وَمَا كَانَ لِبَشَرٍ اَنْ يُّكَلِّمَهُ اللّٰهُ اِلَّا وَحْيًا اَوْ مِنْ وَّرَاۤئِ حِجَابٍ اَوْ يُرْسِلَ رَسُوْلًا فَيُوْحِيَ بِاِذْنِهٖ مَا يَشَاۤءُ۔ (آیت ۵۱ - الشورى) *Translation:- And this too is the Divine statement that "And it is not the status of any mortal (human being) that Allah should speak to him except by revelation (in these three ways) or from behind a veil or that He sends a messenger (angel) who reveals by His permission whatever He wills."
بَابٌ: فِى كَلَامِ النَّفْسِيِّ وَاللَّفْظِيِّ
وَاِنَّ كَلَامَهُ تَعَالٰى قَدِيْمٌ كَذَاتِهٖ وَ ظُهُوْرُهٗ وَ تَعَلُّقُهٗ بِالْحَوَادِثِ حَادِثٌ This chapter is regarding Kalam-e-Nafsi and Kalam-e-Lafzi. And this that just as the Being of Allah Ta'ala is eternal (Qadeem), so too is His Kalam (speech) eternal. And the manifestation of this Kalam-e-Ilahi and its connection with temporal events is temporal (hadith). قَالَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى : وَ اِنَّهٗ فِى اُمِّ الْكِتٰبِ لَدَيْنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيْمٌ۔ (آیت ۴ - الزخرف) *Translation:- Allah Ta'ala says "And indeed, it (meaning the Quran) is in the Mother of the Book (meaning Ilm-e-Ilahi) with Us, exalted and full of wisdom."* قَالَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى : بَلْ هُوَ قُرْاٰنٌ مَّجِيْدٌ فِى لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوْظٍ۔ (آیت ۲۲ - البروج) *Translation:- The statement of Allah Ta'ala is "But it is a glorious Quran. In a Preserved Slate (Lauh-e-Mahfuz)."* وَقَالَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى : اِنَّا اَنْزَلْنٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ۔ (آیت ۱ - القدر) *Translation:- And Allah Ta'ala says that "Indeed, We sent the Quran down during the Night of Decree (Lailat al-Qadr)."* وَقَالَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى : مَا يَاْتِيْهِمْ مِّنْ ذِكْرٍ مِّنْ رَّبِّهِمْ مُّحْدَثٍ اِلَّا اسْتَمَعُوْهُ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُوْنَ۔ (آیت ۲ - الانبياء) *Translation:- And the statement of Allah Ta'ala is "No mention comes to them newly from their Lord, except that they listen to it while they play, making a mockery of it."* وَقَالَ اللّٰهُ تَعَالٰى : بَلْ هُوَ اٰيَاتٌ بَيِّنَاتٌ فِى صُدُوْرِ الَّذِيْنَ اُوْتُوا الْعِلْمَ۔ (آیت ۴۹ - العنكبوت) *Translation:- And the statement of Allah Ta'ala is that "Rather, the Quran is distinct verses (clear arguments, clear rulings) in the breasts of those

who have been given knowledge."* عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ فِى حَدِيْثِ السَّقِيْفَةِ - فَلَمَّا سَكَتَ خَطِيْبُ الْاَنْصَارِ اَرَدْتُ اَنْ اَتَكَلَّمَ وَ كُنْتُ زَوَّرْتُ مَقَالَةً اَعْجَبَتْنِيْ اُرِيْدُ اَنْ اَقُوْلَهَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ اَبِيْ بَكْرٍ وَ كُنْتُ اُدَارِيْ مِنْهُ بَعْضَ الْحَدِّ - فَلَمَّا اَرَدْتُ اَنْ اَتَكَلَّمَ قَالَ اَبُوْبَكْرٍ "عَلٰى رِسْلِكَ" - فَكَرِهْتُ اَنْ اُغْضِبَهٗ فَتَكَلَّمَ وَكَانَ اَحْلَمَ مِنِّيْ وَ اَوْقَرَ - فَوَاللّٰهِ مَاتَرَكَ مِنْ كَلِمَةٍ اَعْجَبَتْنِيْ فِى تَزْوِيْرِيْ - اِلَّا قَالَ فِى بَدِيْهَتِهٖ مِثْلَهَا اَوْ اَفْضَلَ مِنْهَا۔ (تيسير ج ١) Vocabulary:- سَقِيْفَةٌ : canopy - حَدِيْثِ السَّقِيْفَةِ : the hadith of the canopy, the event of Saqifah - Meaning when the Chief of the Worlds ﷺ passed away, the Sahaba became so overwhelmed by sorrow that some lost their senses. The Farooq-e-Azam (RA) was in such a state of grief that he unsheathed his sword and started saying, "Whoever says that the Mercy to the Worlds ﷺ has passed away, I will sever his neck." After Hazrat Umar (RA) said this, all the Sahaba were struck dumb. During this time, Siddiq-e-Akbar (RA) arrived who was working outside somewhere. He saw this event and lifted the cloth from the blessed face of the Prophet ﷺ, kissed it, and regaining his senses, said to the people, "O people! If you worshipped Muhammad ﷺ, then he has undoubtedly passed away, and if you worship God, then He is Living and Present." He recited the verse of the Quran whose meaning was exactly this (وَمَا مُحَمَّدٌ اِلَّا رَسُوْلٌ .... الخ). After this saying of Siddiq-e-Akbar (RA), people regained some sense. Farooq-e-Azam (RA) himself says, "When Abu Bakr recited the verse of the Quran, I felt as if I had heard these verses only now." Anyway, the Sahaba (RA) were gathered around the blessed bier of the Prophet ﷺ when someone came from outside and called out to Hazrat Abu Bakr and Umar (RA) saying, "For the sake of the work for which the Holy Prophet ﷺ left his homeland, bore wounds, and endured every kind of hardship, the foundation of it is being cut today. What a state of negligence you are in! Look! The residents of Madinah have gathered in Saqifah Bani Sa'ida and are appointing a separate Caliph for themselves." Hearing this, Hazrat Abu Bakr had this thought that if the Ansar elect their own separate Caliph, then the Quraysh, who are distinguished due to their high lineage and bravery, will never accept this, and in this way, a new fitna will arise. Immediately, taking Hazrat Umar and Hazrat Abu Ubaidah with him, he reached there, and by his practical wisdom, quelled this fitna. - ق : for Bukhari - لَمَّا : when, at what time - سَكَتَ : remained silent, quietened, ceased - خَطِيْبٌ : orator, speaker. An envoy of the nation speaking on a certain occasion regarding national affairs is called an "orator". - اَنْصَارٌ : original inhabitants of Madinah who gave refuge to the Prophet ﷺ, and helped the Prophet ﷺ, Islam, and the Muslims in every way - اَرَدْتُ : I intended, اَنْ : that, اِنْ : if, اِنَّ : indeed - اَتَكَلَّمَ : I speak - كُنْتُ : I was - كُنْتُ زَوَّرْتُ : I had thought, I had prepared - مَقَالَةً : speech, discourse, sermon - اَعْجَبَتْنِيْ : pleased me very much - كُنْتُ
