Chapter 32

Bab fi Wujoob Ta'atihi

The Obligation of His Obedience

بَابٌ فِي وُجُوبِ طَاعَتِهِ وَأَنَّهُ مَبْعُوثٌ إِلَى كَافَّةِ النَّاسِ *Chapter: On the obligation of His obedience, and that He was sent to all mankind* Chapter: Mentioning that obedience and submission to His Highness ﷺ is obligatory, and that You have been sent for all mankind (meaning for all creation) (You are sent as a Prophet).

قَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانْتَهُوا - *(Surah Al-Hashr, Verse 7)* Translation: Allah Ta'ala says: "(O Muslims!) Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it. And whatever He forbids you from, abstain from it."

Friends! In this verse, Allah Ta'ala has summarized it all with "Mā" (Whatever). Meaning "ātakum" does not just mean wealth and property, but rather whatever He has given of what you need, your religious and worldly needs, keep in mind that whatever the Prophet ﷺ has given you, that is what is useful. And the religion of the Prophet ﷺ will continue until the Day of Judgment. Today, whatever practice is happening, it is happening at the hands of the Presence of the Mercy to the Worlds ﷺ. Remember! Until the Day of Judgment, His rulings are implemented in the same way they were in the time of the Presence ﷺ. However, an understanding heart is needed.

وَقَالَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى : وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا تَبَيَّنَ لَهُ الْهُدَى وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ نُوَلِّهِ مَا تَوَلَّى وَنُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ وَسَاءَتْ مَصِيرًا - *(Surah An-Nisa, Verse 115)* Translation: And Allah Ta'ala says: And whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has become clear to him, and follows a path other than the path of the Muslims (leaving it and adopting another path), We will turn him towards whatever he has turned to (We will put him on that path, let him wander wherever he wanders) and ultimately We will cast him into Hell, and what an evil destination it is? (What a bad place to reach?)

Friends! Nowadays some people have emerged who say that "all people (meaning Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and Christians) are followers of Prophets. Whoever obeys a Prophet attains salvation". Some ignorant people use this verse as evidence: "إِنَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَالَّذِينَ هَادُوا وَالنَّصَارَى وَالصَّابِئِينَ مَنْ آمَنَ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْآخِرِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا فَلَهُمْ أَجْرُهُمْ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ وَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ" - (Translation: Indeed, the Muslims, Jews, Christians, and Sabians (among them whoever) brought Iman on Allah and the Last Day and did good deeds, they will have their reward with their Lord. They will have no fear, nor will they grieve). ---

They say that from this it is clear that whether one is a Muslim, a Jew, or a Christian, whoever has faith in Allah and the Last Day and does good deeds, for them is salvation. But they should know that "Alladhina Aamanu" means "the hypocrites". Outwardly they claim faith, but in their hearts there is no conviction. If all these bring faith and do good deeds, then for them is salvation, they are successful. In my opinion, the following verse refutes this thought: وَمَنْ يُشَاقِقِ الرَّسُولَ مِنْ بَعْدِ ... الخ - Which is clear and plain (meaning whoever turns away from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the path of the Muslims and walks on another path, for them is a severe threat). Friends! "وَيَتَّبِعْ غَيْرَ سَبِيلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ" For what reason was this decree given? "نُصْلِهِ جَهَنَّمَ وَسَاءَتْ مَصِيرًا" (We will put him in Hell, and what an evil place it is). Look at the state of those who turn their faces away from the beloved of God! Basically, these people (meaning those who say everything is right) are scared of the disbelievers, they have descended to flatter them. Those who fear, do so themselves. Obedience and love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ are greater than the love for one's own life, the protection of this ideology. When one has to die anyway, why not die like men?

مرد مرتا روز ہے بزدلوں کی موت اک بار ہے ہر گز نہیں مرتا ہے وہ مرنے کو جو تیار ہے (حسرت) Every person has to die. Assuredly! No one dies twice, assuredly! Absolutely no one will live forever! To the prison-house of the world, a Muslim is definitely coming! Then why are you afraid of dying? Making peace and compromise is a good thing, but honor, self-respect, and self-esteem are better than that. Honor and dignity (meaning those who believe in caste and creed) are cut down by a dagger. You are Muslims, you have a very great asset. Those who are not acquainted with God, even they say, "A life goes, let it go, but an honor goes, it does not come back." (It is said that) "Be patient" but patience has an end. When a sound mind says that now living is useless, then get ready to die. But die a death befitting the dignity of a Muslim. Laughing, smiling, hand over the world to the Creator of the World. وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَوْ بَدَالَكُمْ مُوسَى فَاتَّبَعْتُمُوهُ وَتَرَكْتُمُونِي لَضَلَلْتُمْ عَنْ سَوَاءِ السَّبِيلِ - وَلَوْ كَانَ مُوسَى حَيًّا وَأَدْرَكَ نُبُوَّتِي لَا تَّبَعَنِي - *(Al-Darimi from Jabir - Kanz)* Vocabulary: وَالَّذِي : I swear by the Entity. بَدَا : Manifest, become apparent. لَضَلَلْتُمْ : Assuredly you would go astray. حَيًّا : Alive. أَدْرَكَ نُبُوَّتِي : My prophethood. Translation: The Noble Prophet ﷺ said, "And I swear by the Entity in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad. If Musa were to become apparent to you, and you were to follow him and leave Me, you would certainly stray from the straight path (and remember) if Musa were alive and reached the time of My Prophethood, he would definitely follow Me." (This Hadith is from Hazrat Darimi deceased 255 AH on the authority of Jabir and is also in Kanz) ---

وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَوْ أَتَاكُمْ يُوسُفُ بَيْنَكُمْ فَاتَّبَعْتُمُوهُ وَتَرَكْتُمُونِي لَضَلَلْتُمْ - *(From Hubb - From Al-Zuhri Kanz)*

Vocabulary: هب is an abbreviation for "Bayhaqi" in his work Shu'ab al-Iman. Meaning the narrator of this Hadith is Imam Hafiz Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Husayn Bayhaqi deceased 458 AH. It is also in Kanz from Zuhri. Translation: The Noble Prophet ﷺ said, "And I swear by the Entity in Whose Hand is My soul. If Yusuf were to come among you, and you were to follow him and leave Me, you would certainly go astray."

لَا تَحْمِلُوا دِينَكُمْ عَلَى مُسَائَلَةِ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ فَإِنَّهُمْ قَدْ ضَلُّوا وَأَضَلُّوا مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ ضَلَالًا مُبِينًا - *(Ibn Asakir from Abi Aslam Al-Jumahi from Malik from Al-Zuhri from Anas (RA) - Kanz)* Translation: And the Noble Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not put your religion on asking questions of the People of the Book. (Meaning do not build the foundation of your narrations on asking them) because they themselves have gone astray, and they have led those before you into clear misguidance as well. And they are in clear misguidance."

That they inform you. Translation: The Noble Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not ask the People of the Book about anything (in religious matters). Because I fear that if they tell you a true report, you might reject it. Or they might tell you a false report, and you might verify it. It is obligatory upon you to follow the Quran. In it are the news of those before you, and the news of those after you, and in it is the clear judgment between you." (Ibn Asakir has narrated this Hadith from Hazrat Abdullah bin Masud, and it is in Kanz)

O *(Narrated by Ahmad and Al-Bayhaqi in Shu'ab al-Iman - Mishkat)* Vocabulary: أَفَتَرَى: What is your opinion? Is it permitted? مُتَهَوِّكُونَ: Have you become doubtful? بَيْضَاءَ: Bright. نَقِيَّةً: Pure and clean. ---

Translation: Hazrat Jabir narrates that when Hazrat Umar appeared before the Noble Prophet ﷺ, he submitted, "We hear some things from the Jews, and they seem good to us. What is Your opinion, should we write down some of them?" (Hearing this) the Noble Prophet ﷺ said, "Will you be doubtful like the Jews and Christians became doubtful? I have brought the Quran to you, which is bright and clean. If Musa were alive, he would have no option but to follow Me (Meaning even Musa would act upon My Shariah)."

Written text, written thing, a prescription for medicine, a piece of paper. سَكَتَ: Kept quiet, became silent. وَجْهُ: Face, countenance. يَتَغَيَّرُ: Altering, changing. ثَكِلَ، يَثْكَلُ، ثُكْلًا: To mourn. ثَكِلَتْكَ: May you be mourned, may you weep and wail. ثَوَاكِلُ: Plural of ثاكلة, a mourning mother whose son has died. Translation: Hazrat Jabir (RA) narrates that Hazrat Umar (RA) appeared before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with a copy of the Torah. Then he submitted, "O Messenger of Allah! This is a copy of the Torah." So the Master remained silent, and Hazrat Umar started reading it, and the blessed face of the Messenger of God ﷺ began to change. Seeing this, Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) said, "Umar! May the mourning mothers mourn you! (May your mother weep for you) Do you not see the face of the Messenger of God ﷺ?" Then Hazrat Umar looked at the blessed face of the Messenger of God ﷺ. Then he started saying, "I seek refuge in Allah from the anger of Allah and the anger of His Messenger. We are pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad as Prophet." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "I swear by the Entity in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad. If Musa ---

had appeared and you had followed him and left Me, you would have definitely strayed from the straight path. If Musa were alive and reached the time of My Prophethood, he would inevitably follow Me." (Darimi has narrated this Hadith. What the narrator says is also in Mishkat)

I was given, it was granted to me. أُعْطِيَتْ: She was granted. أَحْمَرُ: Red, fair. أَسْوَدُ: Black. مَسِيرَةَ: Distance, journey. غَنَائِمُ: Plural of ghanima, the spoils of war. أَخَّرْتُ: I saved it, kept it in reserve, postponed it. Translation: The Noble Prophet ﷺ said, "I have been given five things which were not given to any Prophet before Me. (1) I was sent as a Prophet to all the red and the black (fair and dark). (2) I am granted victory by awe at a distance of a month's journey (Meaning fear of Me spreads over the enemy at a distance of a month's path). (3) And for Me, the entire earth was made a mosque and made pure. For My Ummah, wherever they are, they can pray and perform Tayammum on pure soil if there is an excuse. (4) And the spoils of war were made lawful for Me. This was not lawful for any Prophet before Me. (5) I was granted the right of intercession in the Divine Court. There is no Prophet who has not asked for an intercession, but I have postponed My intercession for My Ummah in the Divine Court, and then I will intercede for the one from My Ummah who dies while never associating anything with God (never committing shirk)." (Imam Ahmad has narrated this Hadith in his Musnad, and Tabarani in Mu'jam Al-Kabir from Hazrat Abu Musa Al-Ash'ari, and it is in the first volume of Kanz al-'Ummal)

Friends! From these divine decrees and Mustafa's firmans, it has become apparent that the Messenger of God ﷺ was not sent just for a specific region of Makkah or Arabia. Rather, You are the universal Prophet of all the worlds, the Prophet of the End of Times. After You, the chain of Prophethood has ended. In every part of the world, You are the Prophet of humans as well as Jinn. Animals and stones have borne witness to Your Prophethood. Separation from the stump on which You would lean to deliver the sermon caused it to cry. Alas for the person who claims to be the noblest of creations, and closes his eyes from the light of this guiding lamp (Siraj-e-Muneer), and falls into the pit of misguidance. ---
